The TicketForce team is delighted to feature the World’s Oldest Rodeo at Prescott Rodeo Grounds as this week’s client spotlight. This iconic event is in its 128th annual year after first starting on July 4, 1888, which is considered the birthdate of professional rodeo.
On that day, the first “cowboy tournament” came into being when a group of merchants and professional businessmen organized the event, even offering cash prizes. According to history, “These ‘Cowboy Contests’ continued and were planned, promoted and carried out by a committee of local merchants. From then on, rodeo has grown into a multimillion dollar enterprise with more than 700 professional rodeos in 50 states.”
To add to its many accomplishments, Prescott Frontier Days®, Inc. Committee was inducted to the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in July of 2008. The rodeo is only one of sixteen total rodeos to ever be recognized and quite the honor.
The World’s Oldest Rodeo attracts about 27,000 spectators and an additional 25,000 during the other 11 months of the year when it isn’t event time. This rodeo has made a generous impact on the Prescott community and those surrounding. Donations are made every year to organizations like the American Cancer Society, 4-H, Make a Wish foundation, the United Way, Prescott Schools and many more.
